Chance The Rapper continues to represent Chicago in style. Alliance Bakery in Wicker Park made the Grammy-winner a special Harold’s Chicken Shack-themed cake to celebrate the musician’s 24th birthday. Harold’s is a popular fried chicken chain based on the city’s South Side, and the cake came complete with chicken wings and fries drenched with hot sauce made out of fondant.
Chance, a Chatham native, celebrated his birthday at Studio Paris on Hubbard Street in River North. Sesame Street’s Big Bird, a face painter, and a balloon artist were present, as were rappers T. Pain and Ludacris.

Alliance’s Adam Moro baked the cake and he detailed the thought process via an Instagram post:
“One of Chance's favorite meals is a 7 piece chicken wing plate with fries, hotsauce and a Strawberry-Kiwi Mystic from Harolds Chicken Shack here in Chicago, so I wanted to create a cake with cascading chicken wings that he would not soon forget!”
DNAinfo shared a sketch which Moro used before baking the cake (which is four layers on the bottom and five layers in the middle). The party, held Sunday, also raised more than $100,000 for Chicago Public Schools via Chance’s charity, SocialWorks. Alliance had already built a relationship with Chance. The bakery, which also has a River North location, baked Chance-themed cookies, which also raised money for charity.
Harold’s, which also offers a Chicago-style mild sauce (which is also super popular with customers like comedian Hannibal Buress), fries its chicken in beef fat, earning itself an army of loyal followers. However, each restaurant within the chain cooks their chicken a little differently. Chance is partial to the 87th Street location.
